Combining Images with Binary Operations
Sometimes, you need to combine two black-and-white images to create a new clipping mask, merge silhouettes, or find the exact differences between two sketches. PhenoCapture’s Binary Operation tool allows you to easily blend two images together using logical operations (AND, OR, XOR), opening up a variety of creative possibilities for masking and graphic design.
Whether you are comparing two scanned documents or merging layered designs, this tool ensures precise, pixel-perfect combinations.
đź’ˇ Key Features
- Three Unique Blending Modes:
- AND: Keeps only the areas that are white (or black, depending on your subject) in both images. Great for finding the overlapping regions between two shapes.
- OR: Combines the images completely, keeping anything that appears in either the first or the second image. Perfect for merging two separate silhouettes into one.
- XOR (Exclusive OR): Highlights only the differences. It removes the areas where both images overlap and keeps only the unique parts of each image.
- Flexible Image Loading: You can easily load your source images from your active workspace, pick them from your image buffer, drag and drop files directly onto the window, or even paste an image straight from your clipboard.
- Smart Validation: The tool automatically checks your selected images before you begin. It ensures that both images are exactly the same size and that they are true binary (black and white) images, preventing any unexpected errors or distorted results.
🛠️ How to Use Binary Operations
Combining your images is a quick and straightforward process:
Step 1: Select Your Source Images
Open the Binary Operation window. You will see two image slots: Source Image 1 and Source Image 2. Use the dropdown menus to select where your images are coming from (like your current Workspace or buffer). Alternatively, you can drag and drop your image files right into the preview boxes, or click the [Paste] button to use an image you recently copied.
Step 2: Verify Your Images
As soon as you load your images, PhenoCapture will quickly analyze them. If everything is correct, you are ready to go. If the images are different sizes, aren’t strictly black and white, or are completely identical, a brief warning message will appear to let you know what needs to be fixed.
Step 3: Choose the Operation Mode
Select the type of combination you want to apply by choosing the AND, OR, or XOR radio button. Think about your end goal—whether you want to merge them (OR), find the overlap (AND), or highlight the differences (XOR).
Step 4: Combine and Apply
Once your images are loaded and your mode is selected, click the [OK] button. PhenoCapture will instantly calculate the result and update your main workspace with the newly combined image.
By mastering Binary Operations, you can easily create complex masks and composite images without needing complicated layer setups in a traditional graphic design program!
